Background

This programme investigates the six components of the Human Resource Value Chain after commencing with an introductory chapter contextualising Human Resource Management, within both the Macro and Micro environments of modern day South African contexts.

The programme stresses the integrated nature of Human Resource Management and links to the core concepts of Business Partnering and the creation of value with both HR and Organisational Strategy.

The overall goal and purpose of the programme is to ensure that the Human Resource functionalist who operates within his/her specialised area gains a broad understanding of the other areas of the Human Resource taxonomy and their inter-relationship. Also covered as a result of the Business Partnering link is the reinforcement of the required link between Human Resource and Organisational strategies.

Objectives

  • Understand and apply basic concepts in respect of rewarding and retention of staff;
  • Understand and apply basic concepts in respect of redeployment and retirement of staff;
  • Have a broad understanding and be able to implement the key aspects of an HR information system;
  • Understand the inter-linking nature of all aspects of the HR Value Chain as well as being able to create and apply within their own environment required integration with organisational strategy;
  • Use and complete the various tools and exercises provided.
